Saddle Fitting Consultation

The initial consultation can take around an hour, sometimes two depending on the horse, rider, conditions and severity of the problem.  Many problems can be fixed on site by saddle flocking, adjusting girth straps and adding point straps, or saddle plate adjustments where this is possible.  I also use flair air system and air saddle pads which can often be used in horses with serious saddle problems.  Any other adjustments can be carried out in the workshop including saddle overhauls and other major saddle repairs.

Much of my work involves consulting with vets and Chartered Physiotherapists where I can advise on the effect the saddle has on the movement and behaviour of the horse, and suggesting saddle solutions.

Purchasing a Saddle

In many situations, a good quality saddle can be adjusted at relatively little cost in comparison to purchasing a new saddle.  At no point will I persuade a customer to purchase a new saddle, however, if I feel the current saddle will never be good for the horse, I will advise that this is the only solution.  I carry a stock of new and second hand saddles and am an agent for the saddle companies listed below.

Saddle Companies

I am agent for the following saddle companies:

Albion

Albion are my most popular make of saddle, particularly the K2 Jump.  Their saddles are extremely comfortable for horse and rider due to wide and deep panels, expertly shaped trees and quality hand crafted leather work.  Their range of dressage saddles are also very popular.

Bates

Another popular make of saddle as they have adjustable front plates which are easy to change onsite altering the width of the front of the saddle.  Bates also sell saddles with the Cair air system panels which are sympathetic to sensitively backed horses.  Pessoa is another popular jump saddle made by Bates.  Wintec are the synthetic version which I sell a great deal of as they have a good shape panel, and are again adjustable at the front.

Other saddle makes that I deal with are Hastilow, Ideal, Fieldhouse, Kyte (my own brand), Frank Baines, Flair, WOW and Manor.

Saddle Fitting Service

The saddle fitting service we operate consists of initial consultation and further consultations as required.  Upon initial call, we will evaluate you and your horse, and whether you require a consultation and/or a new saddle.  We hold a good stock of new and second hand saddles for sale.  Go to our Saddles section for some examples of the saddles we sell.
Our fee structure is as follows:

  1. Call Out Charge
This will be between £10-£30 and will depend on your location.
(The charge will be split if there is more than one customer at a location).

  2. Initial Consultation Fee
This is my initial assessment fee and will start at £50
Then any onsite fixes will be charged accordingly (i.e. flocking) and range from £20-£50.

  3. Further Consultations
Will be at a reduced rate at my discretion.
After purchase of a new saddle, another consultation will be required to check the saddle has settled correctly to the horse.
If this check is made within 8 weeks, a charge of £25 will be made.

  4. Saddle Purchases
A straight forward saddle purchase which has my approval that it fits correctly will not incur a consultation fee.
However, a 6 week check is required and will be charged (as above).
